If you would like your dog to be well behaved, calm and happy read on...

Dog owner and trainer, Shirley Kenway, believes that in order to help people train their dogs effectively it is of the utmost importance that she, and other trainers like her, are aware of, and understand, the frustrations that often build up between owners and their dogs.

My aim is to show clients a  ' straight forward and down earth way' of achieving good human-dog relationships whilst using thoughtful training techniques, resulting in happy, well behaved dogs who trust their owners.

I believe that the key to this is a lot of positive encouragement and guidance for the trainers whilst they are learning to teach their dogs the exercises, which I feel, need to be in place.

For dogs to be well behaved, calm and happy they need to be willing to do the following:

  • Accept handling by their family and by other people ,
  • Come instantly  when  called,
  • Sit, down and stand,
  • Walk on a loose lead  - without pulling or sniffing
  • Food  bowl  manners  - wait until given permission to eat ,
  • Recognise and respond to their name,
  • Relaxed  down  - lying quietly and calmly when asked

I have discovered through my relationships with my  own  dogs just how important it is for them to be good mannered and happy in order to achieve trusting, relaxed relationships between us.
